Where's The Funny? debut improv performance

On Friday my improv troupe WTF? (Where's The Funny?) had its debut performance at the Wild Goose Creative in Columbus, Ohio. A special thanks to the troupe See You Thursday for letting us perform after their show! I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the audience since most the people I know couldn't make it that night. The show went well, we got some laughs, and I had fun.

Our next performance is in the new troupe showcase at Thirsty Ear on 3rd Avenue in Grandview on Tuesday at 8:00pm. Come out for FREE improv and see three more troupes after we perform: Parlor Tricks, Shimmy Shake, and Fake Bacon.

More Improv

As some of you know, I have been doing improvisational comedy ("improv") for a couple years now. I am a member of Faux Real (one of two all women troupes in Columbus) which was formed out of Amy & scOtt's advanced improv class. Faux Real has performed in a couple bars around Columbus and is taking a summer hiatus.

I recently joined WTF? Where's The Funny? Being the only woman in the troupe is a fun change and I am getting in touch with my dark and masculine sides. The troupe website is in progress http://www.wtfimprov.com/ and we have a Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=233663051455 .

WTF?'s debut performance will be Friday, June 4th at the Wild Goose Creative in Columbus, Ohio. The troupe See You Thursday will perform at 8pm and WTF? at 9:15. Admission is $5 for both shows - a great bargain! We will be selling concessions (pop & snacks) too.

On Tuesday, June 8th, WTF? will be the featured in the new troupe showcase at The Thirsty Ear in Grandview. FREE admission. WTF? opens the show at 8pm. Then THREE more troupes perform: Parlor Tricks, Shimmy Shake Project, and Fake Bacon. A night chock-full of laughs!

Another Faux Real Performance

LouAnn, Amy R., Donna

My improv troupe, Faux Real, performed again at the Thirsty Ear. We opened for Parlor Tricks, Shimmy Shake Project, and Fake Bacon. We did a short set of four games, of which three were new games for us.

John got pulled onto stage during Fake Bacon's set. They asked him questions about his profession & hobbies. Then they sang a song about him while he was sitting there. Quite funny and John was a good sport about it (he is not fond of being on stage).

Faux Real opens at the Thirsty Ear

Our improv troupe, Faux Real, opened for Parlor Tricks, Shimmy Shake Project, and Fake Bacon last night at the Thirsty Ear in Grandview. After a delayed start because of the sound equipment and a false start with the alphabet game (okay, I forgot which game it was and used a different "alphabet" that has a lot of Y's), we did our set and got some laughs. It was great to meet the other troupes, watch them perform, and laugh so much. Good times!!

We dedicated our show to Lou Ann, our missing Faux Real member, who was dealing with a family emergency (We missed you!!).

The show was so much fun and the audience laughed! (what more can you ask for in improv?!).

Improv Comedy Show

If you have seen "Whose Line Is It Anyway?", you are familiar with shortform improvisational (improv) comedy. I have been taking improv classes for a year or so. I really love performing improv - addicted, even. Improv gets me out of my analytical brain and stretches my comfort zone. It can be quite physical and a fun form of (dare I say it?) exercise. Bringing emotion and energy into the scene adds interest and more for your partner to react to. Body language can express so much too. It has been a real growth experience for me.

The classes are taught by members from the Pale Imitations Improv Comedy Troupe (thanks scOtt, Amy, and Bill!). Our class did a free show for friends and family last night. My parents even drove from Northwest Indiana to watch the show! I am grateful Aunt Linda and several friends attended and were very supportive - it is nice to pad the audience. Below is a photo of most of the class during the improv game Freeze. They are a fun group of people to play with and I had a blast being in class with them! Thanks for the laughs Diana, Donna, Erin, Mary, Carol, Cash, Susan, Angela, and Gigi!!!
